1

Germination

$25.00 (includes GST) for most crops

The turnaround time is usually 7 days.

May have high correlation with the field if field conditions (temperature, moisture, absence of
pathogens) are favorable.

2

Cold Stress Test (Vigor)

$38.00 (includes GST) for all crops

The turnaround time is usually 11 days.

Vigor determines the potential for rapid, uniform emergence of normal seedlings under a wide range of field conditions. The turnaround time is usually 11 days.

3

Thousand Kernel Weight (TKW)

$16.00 (includes GST) for all crops

The turnaround time is usually 2 to 3 days with the cost of the individual assay at $16.00 (includes GST).

This cost can almost be eliminated when a package of tests is ordered. It is a measure of seed size determining the weight, in grams, of 1,000 seeds from a sample.By using the 1,000 K weight, a producer can account for seed size variations when calculating seeding rates, calibrating seed drills and estimating shattering and combine losses.

4

Soil Germination

$35.00 (includes GST)

The turnaround time is usually 7 days.

A soil germination test is usually added to cereals that have been dessicated during harvest. The soil will bind any residual chemical present on the seed and the soil germination test will determine if the sample has an adequate germination level to be used for seed in the spring.

5

Clearfield Confirm

FREE (complements of BASF)

The turnaround time is usually 5 days.

The Clearfield Commitment for lentils is an agreement between a Clearfield lentil grower and BASF Canada. In addition to completing and signing a multi-year Clearfield Commitment, growers agree to Clearfield-confirm test all seed used in the Clearfield Production System for lentils. Discovery Seed Labs is the only seed testing laboratory in the world that has the ability to test for the Clearfield Trait in lentils on a genetic level. Implementation of the Lentil Clearfield markers will allow for the analysis of the plant’s genotype, not phenotype, therefore eliminating environmental effects and challenges associated with scoring the results from the bio–assay.

6

Clearfield Lentil Seed Quality Offer

FREE (complements of BASF) Can only test one same per year, free of charge.

The turnaround time is usually 11 days.

Get one bonus pre-seed quality and disease test package free of charge (complements of BASF) just for submitting any one Clearfield lentil seed variety for Clearfield-Confirm testing. Your lentils will be tested for germination, vigor, diseases, and kernel weight – all key to planning your season ahead.

7

Purity

$28.00 – $44.00 (includes GST)

The turnaround time is usually 2-3 days.

Depending on crop type. A purity test is conducted on 1 kg of seeds which are broken down into four components: Pure seed, other crop seed, weed seed, and inert matter.

8

Vomitoxin

$38.50 (includes GST)

The turnaround time is usually 2-3 days.

It is also known as deoxynivalenol (DON) and occurs predominantly in grains such as wheat, barley, oats, rye, and corn. Its occurrence is associated primarily with F. graminearum and F. culmorum. In animals and livestock, vomitoxin causes a refusal to feed and lack of weight gain when fed above advised levels.

9

Ochratoxin

$49.00 (includes GST)

The turnaround time is usually 2-3 days.

Ochratoxins are a group of mycotoxins produced by some Aspergillus species and some Penicillium species. Ochratoxin is known to occur in commodities such as cereals, coffee, dried fruit, and red wine. It is possibly a human carcinogen and is of special interest as it can be accumulated in the meat of animals.

10

Falling Number

$42.00 (includes GST)

The turn around time is usually 2 – 3 business days.

Falling Number is used for determining sprout damage which is disastrous for bread making quality. Sprouting or pre-harvest germination is caused by damp or rainy weather conditions during the final stage of maturation of the crop. The germination causes an accelerated production of the starch degrading enzyme alpha-amylase. The test has become a world standard in the grain and flour milling industries for measuring alpha-amylase activity in wheat, durum wheat, triticale, rye and barley.”
